Acrylic on canvas (30”X40”) 2021
Ix Chel is the Mayan goddess of the moon, patron of water, childbirth, plant medicine, weaving and mid-wifery. I came upon the tale of Ix Chel after being repeatedly visited by a giant, black, shape-shifting jaguar in my dreams. I went out hunting the furthest corners of the internet in search of what this big-cat could possibly mean and that’s where I found Ix Chel. This painting is a blend of the dreamscape in which I met the Jaguar and the allure I felt upon discovering the myth of Ix Chel.
