Nepenthes

The relationship between the carnivorous pitcher plant known as Nepenthes hemsleyana and the Hardwicke’s woolly bat is really quite special. Many plants have acquired traits that attract pollinators. Think bright colors and fragrant flowers. However, acoustic attraction is rare in the plant world. Nepenthes hemsleyana features an ultrasonic reflector which enables the woolly bat to find it easily and attracts them to roost within. In exchange the bats fertilize these plants with their feces in an ongoing symbiotic relationship which benefits both species. Talk about a match made in heaven.
